Customer Research Goes Online
Online CRM software is hardly the only web based tool that can help you build customer relationships. Somewhere in the myriad of online information are the clues that will drive sales and keep your client happy. Finding those clues may be difficult, but the benefits you and your customers will reap will make your efforts worthwhile.
The best place to start is the customer's web site. Often a search engine such as Google will take you to it. Mission statements, earnings reports, press reports, and employee directories are common site features that can give you a sales edge. If you need more or have trouble finding the company web site, turn to your chamber of commerce. Many chambers have online member directories that can yield a wealth of information.
There are also less official web resources that will enhance your customer research. Meticulous searching often leads to news articles, business reviews, and even market analyses about your customers. Many organizations such shareholder-owned companies must publish annual reports, which are often online. Sifting through these can tell you where your customer spends money and who makes purchasing decisions. Sifting through these kinds of online documents gives you the inside track to make sales or provide better customer service.
